My research addresses moral issues in international relations with a particular focus on the state’s power to control borders and individuals’ freedom of international movement. This focus results from the idea that border controls and freedom of international movement fundamentally affect individuals’ rights and obligations in global politics. Regarding freedom of movement, my research explores whether individuals have the freedom to leave their own country. What is the basis of the freedom to leave? To escape from fear, to exercise political autonomy, or to promote political reforms?
